Who I help
A career that looks right on paper.
Most people I work with are not failing. They are good at what they do, and they have begun to wonder what it is for.
You’re here to do important work.
-
01
The title arrived, and the point didn’t.
You have the role, the status and the seniority — and you still find yourself asking what it is for. That question is worth taking seriously.
-
02
You played by the rules.
You qualified, put in the hard graft, kept up the CPD and networked until you were bored of your own spiel. Doing everything right has not produced the work you wanted.
-
03
The ground moved.
A restructure, a redundancy, or a promotion that left you frantic in your first hundred days. The familiar route has gone and the next one is not obvious.
-
04
You went out on your own.
A new venture, a new sector, a new way of working — and it is not yet working out the way you hoped. You need someone to think it through with, not someone to cheerlead.
-
05
You are competent at everything and certain of nothing.
You can turn your hand to almost anything, which makes it harder to name your thing. Competence is not the same as direction.
-
06
There is no room left for you.
Too time-poor to give your working life any thought, or guilty about putting yourself first for once. Both are reasons people come to me.
The Turn
The turn.
The moment you stop optimising the thing you are good at and ask what it is for. That is the turn. The programme is three months of work around it.
£1,650
Six sessions
Six 90-minute sessions across three months, with a working document we build together and email support between meetings.
How it works
One hour first. Then the work.
-
01
The assessment
One hour, £60. We look at what you have built, what you want, and what is in the way. You leave with a clearer next step, whether or not it is with me.

The programme
Six 90-minute sessions across three months. A working document we build together, interventions designed for you, and email support between sessions.

Keeping the time
Sessions are 90 minutes because an hour is rarely enough to get past the summary. If you need to move one, 48 hours’ notice; inside that, the session is charged in full.
I will give you TIME to reflect and set down anything that no longer serves you.
The blank page, before the work starts.
About
Why Daemon.
I’m Rebecca Hartnell. I have practised for fifteen years and given more than 10,000 hours of face-to-face coaching. I work with women who are heads of department, film directors, teachers, GPs, surgeons and barristers.
The goshawk
It hovers, holding the wider view, and sees the detail from a distance — including the things you have stopped noticing about your own working life.
The daemon
Socrates said he had a daemon: a divine something that warned him against mistakes but never told him what to do. My job is to help you hear your voice, trust it, and decide what to do next.
You’re here to do important work.
“Keep up the good work, Rebecca. You have been a delight to work with. I trusted you almost immediately and you did not let me down. I have no hesitation in recommending you unreservedly to anyone ready to put the work into changing their life or work life. Your skill and insight deserve a large audience.”
“Hearing Rebecca read my story back to me was an entirely different process to reading it back myself. I felt able to have some distance from it, hearing how my story may appear to an outsider. I was able to sit back and focus on listening, and let my words sink in. The culmination of months of work with Rebecca was laid out before me. It made me feel accountable to myself, it made my words real, and it made me ready for action.”
“Think you know yourself? Try coaching and find out just how much you know about who you are and what you can do. You will be surprised in the most magnificent way!”

Questions
Answered plainly.
If yours is not here, ask me directly. I would rather answer it than have you guess.
Is coaching right for me?
If you recognise yourself on this page, probably. Coaching suits people who are willing to look honestly at their work and then do something about what they find. The assessment is the honest way to find out.
How long does it take?
The core programme is three months: six 90-minute sessions, with the working document and email support alongside. The six-month programme runs to seven 90-minute sessions, five accountability sessions and a business plan.
Do we have to meet in person?
No. I work from Eastville in Bristol, and by phone or Zoom with people across the UK and internationally. We can meet in the room or on a screen — whichever suits the work and the week.
What if I need to move a session?
Give me 48 hours’ notice and we will find another time. Inside 48 hours, the session is charged in full.
What if it is not for me?
The assessment is one hour, not a commitment to a programme. If it is not right, we will say so — and you will still leave with a clearer view of what to do next.
